Detailed Description

The Client:  

Our client is a service provider based in North Dublin.  

The Role:  

The client requires an experienced Oracle DBA to support all aspects of the database administration function. 

• The role involves general database maintenance, installations, performance, backup and batch monitoring.
• It also entails the provision of technical support and consultancy to applications development and user staff.
• The company operates a range of systems on IBM/AIX and Sun/Solaris platforms, including its own company website. 
• The successful candidate must possess expertise in a variety of technologies required to support both the company website and back office systems. 
• You will perform the role of DBA for large and small, simple and complex multi-platform information systems.  
• The Data Centre operates 24x7.  To minimise the impact of system outages on day to day business, planned upgrades and software promotions are conducted out of hours.  The DBA will be part of a team that is required to provide evening; night and/or weekend cover onsite in support of these outages.
• Additionally, an On-Call panel is in place to provide out of hours cover for critical systems. 
• The panel operates 24x7x365 and the successful candidate may be required to join the panel.

Essential Criteria:

• Able to pass a 10-year security background check
• Eligible to work in the EU
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written

Qualifications, Skills & Experience Required:

• A relevant Degree/ Qualification
• and/or a proven track record
• 2-5 year's experience of installing, tuning and maintaining Oracle on AIX and Solaris platforms.
• Working knowledge of AIX and Solaris platforms is essential.
• Experience of installing, tuning and maintaining Ingres, Sybase and/or Essbase databases would be an advantage.
• Solid working experience of PL/SQL and TCP/IP
• Knowledge of TOAD, BigBrother, Snort, SSH, FTP, TSM, MQSeries and Checkpoint Firewall is desirable  
• The ability to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with IT and Business colleagues.
• Good problem solving skills
• Good communication skills including the ability to develop and document Operational procedures.
• A desire to achieve and succeed showing initiative and self-motivation.
• A conscientious and flexible approach to the position 
• The operation is 24x7 and to minimise the impact of system outages on the Business, the DBA may be required to provide evening, night and/or weekend support onsite.
