European VAT Specialist, Global Organisation

Global organisation in the healthcare sector requires an AITI qualified European VAT Specialist to join its team in North Dublin.

Overview of the Role:

The VAT Specialist will work as part of the Tax team in Dublin and will assist the European Tax Manager.  Role will include responsibility for VAT issues across Europe with a particular emphasis on Belgian Tax (producing transfer documentation, registering companies, ensuring compliance etc) as well as German, French, Irish, Dutch and UK VAT. The successful candidate will also assist and train staff in various locations in the USA and Europe with regard to VAT matters.

Principal duties and responsibilities:

• Gain full understanding of European VAT issues, focusing especially on Belgium.
• Get full understanding of exposures in other EU countries.
• Attend weekly/daily conference calls with European Tax Lawyers who are currently working on European VAT issues.
• Attend and prepare VAT disclosures and give assistance and explanations to local tax authorities.
• Ensure the process for invoicing is adhered to strictly by entity controllers, providing training and conducting audits where necessary.
• Train staff in local jurisdictions re VAT in both Europe and USA.
• Assist in various ongoing audits, eg: VAT audit currently ongoing in Germany.
• Supervision of VAT Specialist. 
• Other ad hoc VAT duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

• Applicants should have a bachelors degree and be AITI qualified (or hold an equivalent EU qualification).
• 3 years pqe particularly in European VAT.
• 'Big 4' experience preferred but not essential.

Competencies:

• Strong technical competency and analytical ability.
• Good planning and organisational skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in French and/or German beneficial but not a prerequisite.
